Back to Basics
The heading and paragraph blocks are the blocks you will use the most on your pages. They can exist as standalone content in the the editor, and they can be used inside other blocks. If you are familiar with managing web content in the old WordPress system, these blocks will be the most familiar to you.
Headings
Headings are how we organize our page content. All headings fit somewhere in a hierarchy of H1-H6 with H1 being the most significant. Pages will only have one H1 header found in the hero block. Underneath your hero block should be a heading that introduces your page content set at the H2 level. Any content related to the H2 heading should be housed underneath the H3 heading, anything under that at H4, and so on. Heading levels each have a unique look to them, however, it is important to not select a heading level based on the appearance. Headings are crucial to page organization for users, and using improper heading structure creates a frustrating user experience.
In the example below, you will see where the pop out menu for the heading block says “H3” – this is where you select what heading level you want to set.
Paragraphs
Paragraph blocks house the bulk of our page content. The information you are reading right now is typed into a paragraph block in the same way you would type into an email or a document. It is important to consider ways to break up walls of paragraph text through the use of headings, images, and other blocks that are available in the block editor.
