Reusable Layouts
Block Patterns are a saved collection of Blocks that can be used over and over again across your site. They may be as simple as a saved layout for specific pieces of content on a page or as complex as a saved template for a whole page of content. The Digital Communications Team handles the creation of Block Patterns, so if you think your site would benefit from a Block Pattern, please contact webmaster@umw.edu.
Using Block Patterns
When a Block Pattern has been created for your site, you can begin putting it on your pages. This process is almost the same as putting any other Block on your pages.
To add a Block Pattern to your page, open the Block Gallery in the top left corner of the editing window and select the “Patterns” heading.
Then, use the search bar to look up the name of your Block Pattern. The name will be decided when the pattern is created with the Digital Communications Team. Once the Block Pattern is inserted on a page, the Blocks within it can be edited like any other Block in the editing window.
